"Just on the new year’s day (that is the first day of the assault) the Federal army lost a total of 1,500 soldiers killed and missing.
The 131 Maikop Brigade lost 20 out of 26 tanks, and around 100 APCs our of 120. As of February 9, some 120 members of the Brigade were listed as missing.
Grozny was finally taken by the end of February. The assault lasted nearly 2 months. In two months the Russian Army lost 1,426 killed and missing and 4630 wounded and 96 were captured by Chechens.
So the total losses in two months amounted to some 6,000."
So more Federal troops were killed on that one day than were killed in the entire assault? What, were the dead rising from their graves? | |
