In thumbing through Zhukov's memoirs again I was reminded of an interesting comment he makes which has made me wonder for years. Maybe you folks can help me along. During the storming of Berlin he mentions that the 9. Rifle Corps reached and crossed the river Spree (BTW I know the area personally quite well). Quite a few Soviet commanders where honoured as "Heroes of the Sovietunion" for this (and other) action. Especially the 1. (Bobruisk?) Brigade of the Dnepr-Flotilla is mentionend with it's "Gliderboat-Unit" (my German edition mentions a "Gleitbootabteilung"). These transported the 301. Rifle Division across the waters.

Questions:

1) I've searched the Internet and my library. Not much to be found! Can anybody refer me to details, especially pictures about the used boats. I found a note in an article of the "Red Army Studies" where it was mentioned that 9 heavy and 30 light amphibious vehicles were used (crossing of the Spree and the Dahme at Berlin Friedrichshagen, 22.4.45)

2) Any infos especially pictures about the boats used by the Dnepr-Flotilla appreciated in these or similar actions (I'm aware of the so-called gunboats with the (for example) T-34 tank turrets. Especially about those "gilderboats".

Thanks in advance!
