At night Apr.22'45 Gen. Rosly ordered Lt. Kalinin to start crossing Spree using gliders. Three zones were choosen for crossing. At 1:45 glider No.111 landed first 15 scouts of the 5th Shock Army on Spreee Western riverside.

Total amount of troops teken across the river were 16,000 soldiers, 600 guns and mortars, 27 tanks, hundreds of wagons. Besides, sailors were used for scouting and communication.
from 30 sailors 9 became Hero of the Soviet Union (7 of them posthumous)
