I just was offered a 86 Scirocco for 100 bucks. It has 188k on it, but has a bad clutch and wheel bearing. The guy that sold it to me thought clutch bearings were about 30 bucks and were fairly easy to install. The wheel bearing he wasnt sure about. My questions are these: Being mechanically inclined, is it possible to change a clutch bearing by yourself, with full tools and jacks, how much are they really, and for the wheel bearing, can you get a new bearing pressed in, or do you have to get a new hub assembly? I think that for 100 bucks it could be worth it. The car is in great shape, motor runs fine, just needs the two things to get rolling.
TIA Emily

man great deal, the wheel bearing is ez to press out and in, it has a wrist lock, you can use vise and press it out w/ a socket on it, all though the bearing is 40 to 50 at napa, you might need a hub as well, the whole asembly shouldn't cost more then 50 at the yard, also check the shaft splines to be sure they are ok, drive shafts go for 10 to 15 bucks at the yard, i think the clutch bearing sounds weird, but either way, you can get a whole tranny for 75 at any yard, the car is totaly worth it, if the body is in good shape, A1 engines and parts are cheap, you should have a runing car for less then 500 bucks,if you do a good tune up, hope this helps leo
