I've always used 20w50 cuz I've got old loose motors
('82 'rocco almost broken in 130k, '86 GTi 150k, '86 Audi 5ktq 222k).
But, yeah, that sounds like a good combination, use low weight synthetics and pump a lot through with a big hydro pump. I've got a brand new 1.8 8v out of a '92 Cabby with only like 90k that's going in the Scirocco, so maybe I'll give the big pump/light oil a try on it.
