A marker for Camp Cheatham is located at the crossroads of US 41 in Springfield. The original camp is not at that location. Camp Cheatham is located about a few miles north of Springfield, Robertson County, Tennessee. It is still located on farmland and is along the banks of Spring Creek where the railroad crosses it. The units trained at Camp Cheatham were the 1st Tennessee Infantry, the 3rd Tennessee Infantry, and the 11th Tennessee. Although these were the first units trained here, many other units were trained here later, including some cavalry companies. One company of the 11th Tennessee was from Robertson County, the Washington Guards.

I found an article in "The Springfield Speculator" a newspaper found in the verticle files in the Springfield, TN Library. It stated that Camp Cheatham was located on Spring Creek at the Kinney Distillery. The Officers were quartered in the distillery and the soldiers were camped on both sides of the creek.
