well today those words came to mind i was called by a costomer about a tree carving he wanted a bear and when i told him the price he tackled me to the ground and started to hit me luckly my freinds lived next store and got him off of me im sure ill have a black eye tomarrow but is art woth this price
this is the second guy that came after me about my carving the last guy was a drunk from around here that was woried that i would put him outa work ith his carving what is this world comming to seems like every thing i do some one wants to come after me i guess from now on i cant trust costamers
mabe i should move back to detroit where its safe at least there you know when somone is mad at you
i guess im trying to warn you about the evil that is out there be carful
when your out bidding on jobs
oh and im done with stump jobs im tired of the crap that comes with them
Yer supposed to talk pretty to them when coaxing them into hiring you to work on their tree. Where the heck did you move to a mental institution? Geez! Another thing about stump jobs is you can get screwed easily if yer not careful. Jamie Doeren once told me to have people sign a contract of terms stating you are buying their tree for a dollar so if they decide to get frisky and not pay you, the carving is still yours and you can just take it. Very wise! Get things on paper , that's the next hurdle doing what we do. People can be real jerks, as you've learned. Doc
well doc this town is close the people here are nuts so i dont no
but as i said im not doing any more stump jobs there a pain in the ass
nails people asking questions and having people jump you couse they dont like the price
all said and done i have no black eye but my sholder is killing me
Times are hard right now especially in MI. It seems some people are thinking that they should get triple discounted Walmart prices for anything made in America.
Detroit is easy, everyone is mad all the time.
There is no making sence of people who ask for a price and then get mad when they hear it...buy / don't buy...easy. The few sales I have made so far the people were really happy and I was paid more than I asked. I had one guy ask about one of my best pieces, I was going to make about $1 an hour on it he looked at me like I was crazy. I said," alot of work in that." He said, " Not that much!"....I just smiled. If I sold it to him for $10 he would have thought he was being ripped off because he could buy a plastic thing at walmart for $9 and get the pic of 100 of the exact same one. He would not find one like mine though.
Your prices are fair John and your work is original, don't worry be happy. (and wear a goalies mask when bidding.)
now thats funny john, i always have a roll of quarters in each fist when pricing . it makes your fists as hard as a rock, people do not realize the same amount of money is still out there as before the recession even more due to the treasury printing mo muney. the sad fact last year the news was broadcasting for customers to beg for discounts wheel and deal now that has been ingrained in the human mind. my suggestion to stay busy you will have to bargain a little especially since your dealing with low end like me. price a stump job astronomical then say since times are bad i will do it for half that price and if you pay cash i will give you well another 10 percent off friend. then step back hold quarters firmly and watch 4 there reaction.if they give it a go ask for money up front tell them you need a new saw and supplies to do the job . then when done if there not happy get those quarters ready and i dont mean for video games . and get to blocking those sucker punches or get black eye,s trying!!!!!
John, Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Get another job all people are not the same. Be confident and professional. You need to charge according to you level of ability you are getting paid to learn just get the jobs and do you best.
What a story! Hard to imagine that happening where I live but I suppose anything is possible.
It did make me think of my reply to a question I've gotten online about riding a Harley Sportster. "What do you say when other bikers say you're riding a chick bike?" I reply, No one has ever said that to me... but I look like I'll kick your a**.
well today i got a phnone call from the guys wife she apoligized for her husbans bad aditude and said i got the job then i told her that i canot work for them
