just wanted to coment on this since I have gotten a few or more calls on this lately from carvers.

this past week I carved at logging congress and there where ather carvers there, Walmart and Zerox , Xerox doesnt like walmart because he is a union guy so we will call the Kmart and Zerox.
(Jim and Lonnie, great guys I just like to have fun and they give it back also)

but on the more serious side we carved almost side be side ,I for Dolmar and Oregon and they I think for Jonsered.

and we all sold ok and we paid are dues to get in there, but our prices were alot different as they were when me and zerox carved in Green Bay.

but put his bear next to my bear and you can see why I put a higher price on mine.

he carves what he carves and the way he carves and he prices it the way he feels is fair.
and I do the same .
I sell less and he sells more but in the end we usually are not far from making the same amount.

what I am trying to get at is there is a market for apples and oranges.
dont play the price game I could have lowered my prices but why should I take less because they have there carvings price lower then mine???
they are diferent you can easily tell the difference, am I saying I am a better carver so I want more money? ...NO!!
I put more time into the carvings and therefore they look like I put more time into them and they look worth more, I feel this justifies the price.

all of us have a little differet way of pricing and we are in diferent markets and we are marketing to diferent clients.

know your market and your client and make them happy and you will get a good fair price and your clients will feel they have also.

always try to get the most for your work and dont be afraid to work with other carvers. we all carve diferent and if we network we can help each other make a living by referals and keep scabs that set up out side the veneu we are working at trying make an HONEST living by putting preasure on these guys to do the right thing and show a little respect.

sorry a little long lots of bad spelling and not just about pricing.

and I think 100per foot is STUPID, it may work out that way sometimes by coincedence but I never use 100 per foot, I like to eat.

Good luck to both of you in minnesota. good to see both of you as usual. There are alot of factors that go into pricing. Most of all make sure your happy with your pricing what ever it is.
