He looks really folky!

A lot of people like that look a lot. His feet are representational at best, but what they look for is all there. Good'un! Doc

joe i had to work on a wallpaper border display this afternoon after work than had a man who i bought antique saws from 1 year ago stop we talked for 3 hours i bought a spool of saw chain some cable and a 8 feet tall cedar log that he had almost sold to the dallas texas zoo . the log has a feature that looks like a gorilla like jenny the gorilla who died there after 50 years of captivity. i can use it as a back burner project i already have a gorilla carved maybe mesh them together with history of his project corresponding with the dallas zoo director, the natural formation of log with a gorilla feature of log and then sell it to atlanta zoo as willie .b just to be busy to saw this afternoon.

Hey Buzz
That bear kinda looks like he's boxing, looks like he might have caught one in the nose, cause his ears are sticking straight up, even though he got knocked on his butt, his fist are still up. I think he would pass for classical fine art. If I had him, I might would carve his bear wife standing over him in a boxing position.

rick really you need bigger feet than fat head bear no 2 he would tip over if you pushed on him. now the disporpotional feet are a must for base-less carvings

Some people can't do anything with something of them selves in it because ...

September 28 2009, 11:10 PM

They have no identity. They copy pictures of realistic stuff, but haven't any imagination. Even if I copy something to try to learn ... I can't help putting something of me in it. That last bear hasn't got the spirit in it the first one you did on this thread Buzz. You have to be careful when you reproduce carvings, not to become "automatic", your carvings will suffer for it.Ricks carvings are dynamic and he strives for realism, but they look like stuffed animals kind of. "It's easier to make a dead piece of wood look alive than to make a dead animal look alive" a taxidermist once told me, and it's true. Look what people do here and see the life they breathe into their work.( And see the other side too!) Doc
