Use Hydrochloric acid to make antique green wood stain, just find a peace of green brass or Copper, and dip, the color of the Acid turns green then you can apply it to the wood. really brings out the grain. Sulfuric acid and Iron Oxide makes a good red to brown stain as well.
These are some tips I saved from long long lost post. Thought some of you that werent around years ago might benefit.
I wonder if it would work to dip malachite [green] or azurite [blue] which are natural copper deposits in rock. They often occur on the outside of rocks so would be exposed to the acid...
Sounds a little dangerous to me Doug. Both those acids are very nasty. A better choice may be Muratic acid. It's not as strong as the other two. We used sulfuric in our shop to take burn marks off steel and the fumes from that can be real bad to breathe. Be careful.
Good point, I would add one thing. NEVER add water to acid, it could cause a violent eruption. ALWAYS add acid to water if you want to dilute it and never use a metal container.
Nope no pics. This was just a post I saved from years ago, I dont even know who posted it.
I'm sure everyone knows working with any kind of acid can be hazardous if not handled correctly, I hope.
