Hi! After being disappointed with my first few attempts at bears, I gave them up for a while. The other day, inspiration struck. This is the result. I haven't done the finish sanding on the muzzle yet or sparred him yet, but here ya go .... please be gentle! And yes, his head is tilted on purpose ... his ears aren't just crooked.
Yikes! Looks good! If you want them to sell faster don't paint the feet bottoms. Just paint the pads. People seem to respond to color contrasts, even if it's not really like that in reality. Doc Nice bruin!
Are you sure you havent been carvign for about 5 years? something is fishy..thats just to dang good for a newbie. I think you better get chaz carving mushrooms so you can concentrate on the wildlife.
I can't believe how awesome you all are! I REALLY appreciate all the nice comments! Thank you all so much!
Let's see if I can do this right:
Doc ~ thanks for the tip! I'm trying to learn and need help like that! I appreciate it!
Roger ~ thank you! I'm sure you'll find your inspiration when you stop looking for it, like I did! You're coming along .... don't let it get you down, ok?
Tone ~ LOL! Thank you! I hope you're feeling better.
Jezebel ~ Thank you so much!
Chap ~ Awww! Thank you!
Ken ~ OMG! Thank you so much!
Cliff ~ thanks (again)!
Cassie ~ thank you! He did turn out pretty cute!
Eric ~ Just five months! I just had to get all of Chaz's "instructions" out of my head and carve ... it worked! He's a great artist, but so VERY different from me so in some ways he's a big help but in others he just can't relate to my skill level, if that makes sense. Maybe he SHOULD carve some shrooms! LOL!
BrianW ~ Seriously, your bears are WAY better! You KNOW I love 'em! But thank you anyway! Love ya!
Robbie ~ LOL! I was kinda thinking he reminded me of Pooh before I furred and painted him! Thank you! I doubt I'll ever be able to compete with Chaz because our styles are so different, but that's ok! I'll settle for at least being in the same ballpark!
Thanks again to everyone! You made my day (and my eyes tear up)! I'm so happy with your responses!
Dez, you are really doing great for just beginning! I'm glad you are enjoying yourself, what a great combination for you and your husband. As you go you will find yourself going down your own path, it's always great to learn as much as you can and then do your own thing. Next year, who knows what great adventure you will be on...sky's the limit! Wish you the best and I will keep looking for your work.
dez thanks i see what im doing wrong on my bears i clicked on this post again and the way or place you did your arms made me think so i looked at another pic and bam i got inspired or i figured out what i was doing to mess up the arms on my bears thanks
First, let me say thank you again to Cassie! Thanks also to Tom ... no inspiration really, just walked up to a log and found a bear. John, don't be mad! LOL! I hope you can find something to help you, if that's what you're wanting! Thanks!
Second, I went back and made some improvements (I think) so let me know how you like him now, please. He still isn't totally finished and I'm going to leave the stump bare until the "owner" decides what they want it to say!
i did find somthing that helped me sorry if the last post was hard to figure out i was in my trance like state i cant stay awake now i know that's funny
aint it
De, thank you! I hope he sells ... or I don't ... LOL! I'd like to keep him just to prove to myself I can do it, ya know? Maybe I'll price him way high? LOL!
You are fast on your way to being a Chainsaw Chick. I agree with all the compliments and I want to add one thing to Doc's advice about the feet and your interpretation of what he said. I have seen feet done many different ways and no matter what way you choose to present it, it will be just fine. The pads of the feet are generally lighter color and the black hair surrounds the pads.
Here is a picture of real Black Bear feet that I just found to share.
Also a belated congratulations to you and Chaz on your first carving event.
Thank you! I'm saving this picture! It was really nice of you to help me. We also appreciate the congratulations. It was a wonderful event ... getting ready to do it again next year! Thanks, Dave!
Omgosh!!! That is great Dez!!!!! I'm impressed!!!! U kick butt~~~~ Move over Chaz half pints in the HOUSE!!!!!!! lol!!! really ur not short!!! hahaha!!!! Keep it up Dez U ROCK!!!! luv ya!!!!
Whew! I was afraid this was a fluke, but I was able to carve a bear this morning pretty close to it! I can't use it, unfortunately, as I found deep bore worm holes as I got into the chest area ... but the point was that I could actually do it again! Thank you! Love and miss ya!
