Hi Everybody,
I'm travelling over from Ireland to RIDGEWAY this Feb,to learn from watching all the great carvers that will be there and try my hand at some carving myself. Do you get many novices carvers at the show ,I mean like complete beginners like myself.
Regards
Mick

You'll see all differant levels of carvers there. It's a great place to learn and meet new people. I haven't been there in a couple years but the first time I went in 2003 I had only been carving a few months.

Go!

October 27 2009, 10:23 PM

Mick, I was a complete beginner..... did my first chainsaw carving ever at the last one! I almost made the mistake of not going, cuz I thought I would stand out as a knucklehead. To some I still stood out like a knucklehead. But, most everyone made me feel right at home. I had some equip, but, was entirely cluless..... no idea where to begin. Most everyone I asked for help were more than willing to answer my questions and many whom I did not approach went out of their way to say hello & give advice. The best part is meeting the Bonni family and witnessing how hard they work to see that everyone is take care of... Just awesome!

Go

If you have the ability to go, then don't make the mistake of not. I know if I could go I would be there. I talk to alot of carvers that go there and they tell me that it is has been very benificial to them.

First of all if you get lost in Ridgeway, just give up carving, you have other issues to deal with. The main drag is roughly three football fields in length.(ha ha, but true.) Secondly if you are a beginning carver and you miss this then you have missed out on the most amazing experience of your life. I am an amature carver myself and recently spent a weekend in Ridgeway carving with Rick Boni and his family.(Most all of them carve.) It was by far one of the most influential things I have ever experienced. I have never been to the "voo" but you can bet I won't miss it. Hope you don't either. Until then be safe, keep your saw in the wood and the sky is the limit. Cheers m8
