My 79 Ranchero needed new skins, but 14" tire selections are starting to get slim. My original size was 215/75-14 with an OD of 26.7" I wanted a bit more rubber on the road and wanted to fill up the wheel wells some. My solution was to get cheap ARE mags in 15" and get my buddy who gets a good deal on tires to get me 4 225/70-15 which were wider yet only brought my OD up to 27.3". He truly is a good friend and not only got me a good price but picked up the new wheels and he returned the car all done. Only problem was that the tires were 225/75-15 which are 28.3" OD. The car sits nice, the ride is great but I lost in rear gear ratio. Now the slightly peppy 3900# sled is a dog. I actually have a bog when I do a stomp on a 1st gear roll out. I guess I'll live with the better gas mileage as I can't return the tires.
