My 79 Ranchero needed new skins, but 14" tire selections are starting to get slim. My original size was 215/75-14 with an OD of 26.7" I wanted a bit more rubber on the road and wanted to fill up the wheel wells some. My solution was to get cheap ARE mags in 15" and get my buddy who gets a good deal on tires to get me 4 225/70-15 which were wider yet only brought my OD up to 27.3". He truly is a good friend and not only got me a good price but picked up the new wheels and he returned the car all done. Only problem was that the tires were 225/75-15 which are 28.3" OD. The car sits nice, the ride is great but I lost in rear gear ratio. Now the slightly peppy 3900# sled is a dog. I actually have a bog when I do a stomp on a 1st gear roll out. I guess I'll live with the better gas mileage as I can't return the tires.

liked the cheapo soda blaster and saved that site.
Humhhh? I can see that larger o.d. tires and the longer roll-out would slow initial acceleration as, of course, it makes the rear end gears 'longer', in essence. But, can't see how such a change should turn into a bog. Slower, yes, bog no!
Carb'ed? Maybe you need to adjust the pump shot, shooter volume, etc. to accommodate a slower acceleration rate. More pump stroke and/or a slight larger shooter IMHO. Or, maybe a small accelerator pump issue like a leaky gasket or porous diaphragm.

you could probably get someone to just 'tune' your ECM rather than buying a programmer, but i'd find someone like Lonnie at BOC that has experience with and is familiar with cars heavier than Mustangs.

Tinman is on the right track as the new tires have changed first gear rollout by about 6% and it's messing up the pre-set, yet changeable chip parameters.

I have only read a little about tuning the later model Mustangs etc. My system is EEC IV out of a 1990 Mustang that was auto. So it is not OBD II and retaining a MAF system the computer should take changes easier than Speed Density? My worked AOD gets no input from the computer, only the TV cable. I did use a VSS sensor which does send a signal to the computer showing road speed. From what I could find the VSS is used for controlling the EGR functions and in a EGR delete car you should still use it to prevent stalling???? I need too do more research on the VSS and if I had the money I would start with a slightly larger (new) MAF just because.
versed Wayne in VSS functions but will still suggest (as mentioned) that the small diameter tires have lead to the bog. In fact, I do believe that indirectly (speedometer?) the tire size has affect the fuel enrichment cycle.
'Course, easy way to check would be to swap on some taller diameter rear tires and see if the bog goes away.
...I missed that post. I am anxious to try it out. Seems like you would really want to fluff up the baking soda (in the box) to allow it to siphon up the tube.
tip. Heck, I really don't have anything right now to clean but want to try it anyway. Neat too in that I always have a box in the fridge anyway to eliminate odors so I don't have to spend a dime to try it.
Thought too about the clumpiness (is that a word...LOL) of baking soda. I'll microwave mine beforehand to drive out the moisture.....bet that works!

Thanks for asking, It has been raining for days but I did run my codes and I got O2 sensor 41 which is lean passenger side. Me being thick headed knowing the sensors were less than a year old I dug into other areas that might show the code 41. I finally gave up and bought a new Bosch unit to replace the "Standard" part. Idle smoothed right out and when it's dry out I'll try a blast. What killed the HEGO during it's winter nap? All I can think of is the garage is damp as is the Island I live on and I didn't start it for 5 months.
No silicone used anywhere. I hate the stuff ever since I tore down a engine years ago and found the soft gooey stuff in the pan, in the valley and blocking oil returns in the head. I have one more HEGO to replace when it comes in as I've had it with the Standard brand. I'm also going to bite the bullet and buy a set of 225/70/15 and get back close to what I built in the first place. My shift points are all different with these taller tires and the AOD is controlled by a TV cable and since I got my pressure rise just right I don't want to fool with it.
be careful with a new purchase. I've found (and heard of) even more variance these days in the diameter and width of allegedly the same size tires between different brands. Believe you know this but it would pay to tape measure any new tire beforehand to ensure that the 225-70-15 size you're planning on purchasing is, in fact, the same diameter as the old tires.
"Buy Michelins Wayne. IMHO, the best rolling tire out there. Good mileage on them too."
Yes they may be good but I have never bought a French tire. Both times I was wounded was in Rubber plantations. First the Ben-Cui and then in the Michelin plantation. Old habits I guess I agree about the sizing, brand to brand, and I knew going in the 225/70/15 was a hair larger in OD but the ones I got added another inch at least and when ?? I have the bucks I'll try what I originally wanted. I may have a use for two of them on my trailer and that would make the change easier to live with.
