Hey guys, another cam question please. I'm thinkin about my '95 F150 truck with the 351W in it. The question is: on a stock 351W truck motor, with a roller cam what are the specs? Plus, what are the specs on a '92 Mustang or Cougar HO 302 roller cam? The reason is I have all these, and was thinkin about a swap? I was told by some Lightning guys that the stock Mustang HO cam was more agessive than the Lightning cams, so if this is true, then the "Stock" F150 cam would definately be a "Dog" compared to the Mustang cam? What do you guys think?

P.S. thanks for helping my buddy on his 302 build.

Don't have the Lightning specs at hand. Likely IIRC they are close to one another. I'd take a look at Ford Racing's hotter-than-stock cams too keeping in mind its for a heavy truck that may also have an auto trans. The B303 cam was a popular improvement in the 5.0 era and it was hotter than either cam again IIRC.

On edit: now I wonder if the '95 Lightning actually did have a roller cam or was still, since it was a very limited run vehicle, using a flat tappet hydro cam? Looking around n some saved favorites I did run across some questions as to which cam type Ford used. Also learned these '95 models are quite rare trucks too!

Yes the Lightnings did use a flat tappet cam, although by 1994 they did use the F4TE roller cam compatible cylinder block.

I found this from an old saved file about Lightning specs:

Factory Stock Lightning (flat tappet) cam:

Duration @ 0.050" Int./Exh.: 200/214 degrees

Degrees Advertised Duration Int./Exh.: 260/274 degrees

Gross Lift Int./Exh.: .260"/278"

Net Lift Int./Exh.: .416"/.445" (with stock 1.6 Rockers)

Net Lift Int./Exh.: .442"/.472" (with 1.7 Roller Rockers)

Interesting that....

the OEM FT Lightning cam and 5.0 hydro roller cam are very close in specs. This means one would really need a more aggressive FRPP roller cam or aftermarket cam to step up from the factory spec. stuff.
