My engine has had some damage and generally needs an overhaul. I just want to post some ideas and get some feedback.

The car is a ’72 Mach1. Use is mainly street, occasional strip. The car needs to be fast, not economic.

This is what I HAD:
-Stock bottom end with flat top pistons, no overbore.
-OC heads (giving around 9:1 compression?)
-Isky hydraulic cam. Duration 216/216 @.050”, lift .510/.510, lsa 108 degrees
-Scorpion non-adjustable roller rockers
-BT intake with 575 speed demon vacuum secondaries
-FPA headers and stock dual exhaust
-C6 trans, with CJ-converter, deep pan and trans cooler
-3.89 posi
-MSD ready-to-run dizzy
-Milodon 9 qt oil pan

This is what was damaged/ worn and needs to be replaced:
-cam and lifters (worn)
-crank (damaged beyond repair)
-one connecting rod
-pistons (one piston damaged, block needs boring)
-oil pump

This is what I PLAN:
Since I need to replace most of the rotating assembly I am thinking about a stroker kit. Either a 383 or 393.

Benefits 383: shorter stroke (3.75) with longer rod (6.125) does not give too much wear.
Drawback 383: kit is only available with forged crank making it expensive.

Benefits 393: more cubes, cheaper because available with cast crank.
Drawback 393: more wear because longer stroke (3.85) and shorter rod (6.00)

Pistons should be again flat tops and this should give a compression in the 10:1-10.5:1 range. I want to keep the iron OC heads.

Cam is most difficult decision. I want to keep a hydraulic flat tappet cam. The Isky cam was pretty good, but wilder is OK. Power band in the 2000-6000rpm range. I don’t mind a lopy idle. What is the max lift I can handle?

Here are some cams that look interesting:

Lunati Voodoo 62502: int/exh 219/227 @050, 540/552 lift, 112 lsa
Comp 275DEH: int/exh 219/232 @050, 515/541 lift, 110 lsa
Crower 15173: int/exh 219/225 @050, 530/524 lift, 108 lsa

Other goodies I want to add:
-windage tray
-screw in freeze plugs
-bigger carb given the bigger cam and cubes.

OK this was long, but please give me your ideas.
