Response to The volume of oil supplied to the top end of the Cleveland ....

George, Option number two or the oil restricted push rod does not do much to help the lifter to control or meter oil. Since the push rod is not in contact with the lifter less than half of the run time (duration less than 360) the oil "leaks" between the lifter and pushrod while there is lash. The cross section of the push rod tip to lifter cup contact ares is greater than the cross section of the restricted push rod. Pressureize fluid wii follow the path of least restriction, which is to leak out between the lifter and pushrod. Options one and three are the ones that do work. Option one only works when the lifter to lifter bore clearance is perfect.
Hope I explained this well enough.
