Response to good parts not = good motor

Wow - what a hack. At least you possibly have some decent parts to work with. Rockers might be BBC units which could throw off the geometry. On the cam, I'd just check with Comp and run what they spec for springs. I don't know what to tell ya bout the water pump - that's a new one there. And replace that oil pump shaft with a FRPP moly unit. A snap ring keeps it in place, never an issue with one on any motor.
