Response to Re: I forgot about rhoads lifters....maybe a good option
finally got around to working on this last week. Tryed the most inexpensive mods first. I removed the spectra carb hat & 4" air tube that had the air filter plumbed into the cab of the truck for mud racing. Then i removed the 2" thick 4 hole carb spacer. I put the carb back on without a spacer and put a 14"x3" summit racing air cleaner on it. It made a big difference in the off idle response and overall driveability. I suspect the big 2" spacer was the main culprit but i think the carb may have been restricted of good air flow at low rpm with the filter plumbed into the cab. I suppose im satisfied enough with how it runs without changing any other parts. So if i want to take it mud racing again all i got to do is bolt my carb hat and tubing back on to the carb and hook it to the piece of tubing that is still going thru the firewall with the air filter in the cab.
