looks like 1.266 is the CH listed for the combo, how close do they come to the deck with a 6" rod?

That's 9.191" from the center of the crank, to the top of the piston dome

If you are fool enough to believe the deck of a 351C is 9.2, then the deck clearance is only 0.009"

In reality its more like 0.024" deck clearance

i know there's some Hocus Pocus in the 9.206" figure

that's why i ask what actual builds have found for clearance Clarence at the top of the hill, with an uncut block preferably

double standard

Its in my charts if you study them .... little known fact

R code motors = 9.206 deck height

All others = 9.215" deck height

Deck / stroker

January 26 2012, 9:08 AM

George's number for other blocks explains a lot. I cut .016 off the last block to get zero deck.

Just note something I learned from Scat - just because the numbers work out doesn't make it a viable combo. I asked about the same thing with a neutral balance, Scat tech said "won't work - rod too short to balance". 6.125 rod, custom piston. Just keep that in mind.

I wouldn't believe everything they tell you....

I remember a conversation with one of their tech guys about balancing a forged Cleveland crank and they told me that you would just need a piece or two in each end....yeah right....if the rods were made of cardboard.

Only from that experience on the tech line

I specifically asked for a 3.85 arm W steel crank, C type piston, neutral balance, rings and bearings. $2200 was the rough quote and that rod was required to make it work - according to them. When I get to do this next engine, I'd like a crank that can be fixed or fairly easily replaced. Believe me, I'll call you and/or other real time experts when the money is really on the table for it.

I did a neutral on my stock 351C cast crank with stock 5.78 H beams and light probes (stock pin height), took 8 hours and 4 pieces of Mallory. I'd like to not have to do that again LOL.

32 thou

January 26 2012, 3:14 PM

The few motors i have built, one of them having TRW Flat tops, all needed 32 thou to get zero deck. These were 1981 Australian blocks.
