For the hell of it: The FAJ 30 references list

by Gavok

The Quan Chi airplane scene: I doubt I need to explain this one, but it's based on the Team Korea '97 ending. Three more chapters and I can retire the gag.

The Johnny Cage movies: Some of the many movies of his referenced in MK:DA. Ninja Mime was his first movie which bombed in America but was surprisingly popular in France!

The Battler-tusi: Based on the Bat-tusi, a dance Adam West did on the old Batman show.

Dong Hwan and the arcade game: Based on the recent Shinobi commercial.

Justin Bailey the Genie: "Justin Bailey" was a code for Metroid that gave you Samus in a bikini with a stronger initial arsenal. The outfit from her second wish is the outfit from Metroid Fusion.

Kim Kaphwan vs Dracula: The "Abracadabra" part is based on an old Bugs Bunny bit where Abracadabra turns Dracula into a bat and Hocus Pocus turns him back into a vampire.

Scorpion yelling "QUAN CHIIIII!": If you don't get this one, you should be ashamed. Also, just to note, I pretty much wrote Quan Chi as a mystical version of RECBT Geese Howard, only I decided to add more goofy characteristics from MMK's treatment of Geese in Tower of Power.

Abobo/Abubo: For those of you who don't know, Rage of the Dragons was originally supposed to be Double Dragon-based but Evoga couldn't get the rights. So they changed the names and kept the basic story ideas. Billy and Jimmy Lee became Billy and Jimmy Lewis, Marion became Mariah and Abobo became Abubo.

Stealing power from the Eternal Champion: Parody of the ending of Marvel Comic's Secret Wars where Dr. Doom succeeded in stealing the Beyonder's powers but later lost them due to his own doubt. Beyonder regained his powers and disqualified the supervillain team.

Gordon/Mezu/Gozu: For those who haven't heard of them, they're all characters from Savage Reign and Kizuna Encounter. Gordon is pretty much trying to protect Jae in order to protect Jae's future son Kim Sue Il (Pimp Kim). He's not actually Chang's son, but I thought it would make a neat twist. Since Leona is the closest thing Chang has to a love interest, I went with her as the mother. And yet everybody assumes I despise Leona

Sub-Zero: His relationship with Fuuma is based entirely on a very obscure wrestling angle from WCW a couple years ago involving Glacier (who himself is based on Sub-Zero) and Norman Smiley. The fact that the angle was killed after three weeks shows why WCW died. Not to mention getting rid of the Positively Kanyon gimmick.

I miss Kanyon. And La Parka ;_;

The Kyo part: Starting with Kyo beating Scorpion with a wrench, the scenes are taken from one of the greatest 9 minutes ever: Flipmode. This is an episode of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast that makes little sense, involving leaky gas pipes, a murder mystery, a trip to the supermarket, and Busta Rhymes laughing nonstop. Download it on Kazaa Lite if need be.

Oh, and the "finish each other's sentences" bit was from Space Ghost as well. Forgot the episode.

The Krypt: The place in MK:DA where you unlock secrets and stuff. Every decent fighting game needs a Krypt in it. It makes the Secret Store from CvS look like a flea market.

Time Posse: Obvious parody of Time Squad, where a muscular space commander, a sissy robot and a nerdy kid go back in time to fix errors that pop up. Like convincing Albert Einstein to be a great physicist instead of a used car salesman. Or getting Beethoven to quit wrestling and get back to composing.

Blackheart and D'arby: Taken from the ending of a Samurai Jack episode where he fought a creature named Demongo whose powers were exactly like that of Shang Tsung in the MK movie, only without the morphing. Goddamn, that episode ruled.

Buff Enough: Play on Tough Enough, the MTV reality gameshow where several twenty-somethings train to become wrestlers.

That seems to be it, I think.
