Still, Green Lantern (Kyle) jobbed to Silver Surfer in the Marvel vs. DC crossover. You're better off picking Allan Scott (Green Lantern/Sentinel) even though he can't affect wood.
Oh, and the Green Guardsman (Guardian?)... the Allan Scott parody in the JLA cartoon was a hoot, incidentally. "My powers can't work against aluminum." Did that crack me up.
Other names I'd suggest:
Dr. Midnite (the new one in JSA) - can use tech, martial artist, and is a real doctor to boot
Ben Reilly Spider-man/Scarlet Spider - Just to piss off any other spider fan in there and incite them to a murderous rage in seeing him. Heh. I liked the impact webbing though. Whatever happened to that?
Still, I don't know how to comment on Captain Marvel (Marvel). For me, he's too much like the Silver Surfer in terms of versatility of powers...
