I was just in Saskatoon over the holidays and dropped by their four-field indoor soccer centre to see a cousin play in a tourney there. While there, I learned all about Saskatoon's plans for a second indoor facility, and is it cool! They're building a $14.5 million soccer park in the city's northeast. It will have two indoor fields, with a FULL, OUTDOOR-SIZED artificial grass surface INDOORS. They will be able to use curtains to divide that field into four additional indoor-sized fields.
Also, they will have an outdoor artificial surface. It can be divided into two soccer or football fields, or one big soccer field. This outdoor surface will also have lighting, bleacher seating for 2000, illuminated score clocks and a media box. Their pamphlet says, "It is not unreasonable to expect that CSA National Teams would select Saskatoon as a prime site for their training programs."
Their plans are pretty cool and pretty ambitious... they are still fundraising, but the ground has already been broken at the site. Wish Calgary could have something similar. You can see Saskatoon's plans at www.saskatoonsoccer.com
