City Council just granted a $1.5 million, interest free loan to the Calgary Minor Hockey Association to twin the Max Bell arena.
The quote that caught my attention was:
"With 50,000 people playing hockey in the city, the need for a new rink is clear..."
Soccer is feeling a space crunch, too. As we have stated until we're blue in the face, soccer is the most popular participation sport in Calgary. And while I'll admit that you can turn any school field into a soccer pitch for the wee tykes, when it comes to venues for high calibre/professional games, hockey has soccer beat hands down.
I think a little green should be thrown our way. | |
