Response to Re: 4 speed transmission parts swapping

<<< Is there any advantage in going with either the early or late synchronizer rings and sliders? >>>

Not really. In theory, the larger synchro rings and sliders should last longer and be more robust. However, I really don't see that in practice.

<<< Are the Yugo parts the same as later Fiat 4 speed? >>>

The rear ratios are different but the paripheral parts are NOT interchangeable with the 4 speed. The Yugo 4 speed is basically an X1/9/strada/Ritmo 5 speed without 5th gear. There are differences in ratios though.

<<< Besides turning freely and having no play is there anything else I should look at when inspecting the bearings? >>>

The bearings should turn smoothly without tight spots or crunches. You should also inspect the races and rollers for surface finish integrity.
