Response to Well.. welcome back Mike Alan... and is that a turbo I see?
My 79 has graduated to a dedicated autoX car running in the E Modified class. After putting the cage in it, i decided that it was not in my best interests to street drive it. Soon after I decided it needed more power and settled on an 87 Shelby Z motor. The swap was not too tough and i like the handling balance that resulted with the fuel cell. Est power is 190-200whp and it runs on 87 octane.
It feels like alot of power in a 17500# car. If anyone has questions on doing the swap, i took a ton of pictures.
I have full intentions of doing a swap with the 77 i just picked up. The only difference is this time i am going to use the hub assemblies from the doner car and some custom tubular control arms.
My drive line choices at current are:
SRT4 - I had one and loved it. Sold it cuz i couldn't leave well enough alone.
Why? The 57.6" track width will fit well within the 59 1/2" bodywork i have. LSD and 400whp
capable with a stock turbo and bolt-ons. $2500 - ENG/TRANS/HARNESS/ECU ($3200 4 a front clip)
H22A - 200hp, 8,000+ rpm capable and a Honda?
Why? It's a Honda motor. Ton's of aftermarket support. Only thing it doesn't come with a
LSD.About $2400 ENG/TRANS/HARNESS/ECU
L61 - Ecotec 2.2L
Why? Cuz Fiat is using a variation in the Fiat Croma. It would make me feel good to put a
Fiat valve cover on a Cavalier engine. Tons of aftermarket support. Only 145 hp.
Any advice or questions? Another option maybe?
