Looks like the dizzy cap is still there though... or is the dizzy just acting like a "cap" to keep the oil-pump running?
Black Tooth and me... since 1983!

The old distributor's magnetic pickup is being used to trigger the tach on the dash and tach input to the OEM fuel injection computer. I think that one more wire will fix that and let the EDIS trigger the OEM fuel injection. (or, alternately, ditch the OEM fuel injection computer...)
Trigger signal is coming from a toothed wheel on the crank pulley & magnetic sensor. I thought about mounting to the camshaft or distributor housing, but the best benefits are when mounted to the crank. The crank is 100% repeatable, no timing belt float or distributor gear lash. The EDIS system has ~0.15° resolution, so why not preserve that accuracy.
With no external smarts, it will hold timing rock solid at 10°BTDC. To get beyond that, an external control module is needed. But the 10° is a good "limp home" feature - one that I activated when I forgot to reconnect a wire last night
MegajoltLiteJunior will control it for short money, but I went with Megasquirt to also integrate fuel delivery as well. Set your advance tables based on RPM and MAP, dial in a soft rev limiter if you like, have it retard spark based on intake air temp, give you a couple of shift lights, etc - both MS and MJLJ will do all of that right out of the box. The EDIS will give you full control between 59.5°BTDC to 10°ATDC, and can do multi-spark ignition in the low end (<1200ish) for an idle that is smooth, lean, and green.
Just testing a bit for now, but I'm impressed with flexability of software driven ignition.
