...which was what GRM was called originally.
I still have all those early issues of Auto-X.
They had occasional X1/9 articles and features.

You don't by chance.....

have some issues(s) where they test and tuned various dual dcnf equipped X1/9's?

I might have the wrong publication. Somewhere around here I have a spreadsheet of jetting that mentioned an article or two. Was always curious what the article said.

Wasn't published by Auto-X...

...or GRM.

I have EVERY issue,
from the very first,
up to a few years ago.

Diminished content caused me to
not renew subscription.

interesting comment on the Koni's

August 7 2008, 3:39 AM

Always wondered why everyone praised Konis. The only Koni installation I have ever seen on a street X placed the tail WAY up in the air. Guess the wrong units were installed.

Yes

The euro carbed 1500 had taller rear struts.

So there are 1300 Konis and 1500 Konis.
If you get the 1500 Konis, the car will sit level, no more nose high, the whole car will be high.

I had those on my car for a while.

FYI Chuck Sample

August 7 2008, 7:03 PM

FYI, the "in between" they referred to about Chuck Sample's X was that it was a 74 with a 1500 engine. That was way back in the first days after D Street Prepared was invented. SCCA later reversed itself and made that swap a no-no. FYI, Chuck tried really hard to keep the reason for his trick tire choice (175/70/13) a secret. You'd think 175/70 was too tall and too skinny, but it turns out Yokohama's 185/60 was a different (much harder) compound than they used in the 175/70.

I was running my old 510 in DSP those days, and I remember a Ft. Wayne Divisional it was raining and I had a big class lead after Saturday with everybody spinning or coning. On Sunday, it dried up and Chuck in his X blew us all away. A lot of CSP/DSP X1/9 projects got started after that.

Heck, in those days, my old near-neighbors the Darwals were still winning Nationals in their X. How times change, eh?

Koni's

August 8 2008, 9:02 AM

Were the "Brand" for dampers back in the day. Much has changed since then after the motorcycle, off road folks and Lotus (active suspension) got serious about dampers. Today everything from FOX, Ohlins, Penske and others have changed the world of performance dampers.

What worked well back in the day might not be the ideal choice today.

It is interesting to this day, the X remains one of the best Auto-X chassis for the $.
