I suspect that if I were to “Search”, I could find this info already posted here on this site by someone else.
However, for the record, I replaced my weatherstripping this weekend and wanted to document the results.
J.C. Whitney has a perfect generic material for this application. It is their number XS-132568. This gets you a 25 ft. roll of the material, and since you need a piece approximately 23 ft. long, you can see that it’s a perfect match.
Simply start at the top of the windshield, and press the material into place, around the door, up and over the Targa bar, around the opposite door, and end at the opposite windshield top corner. Very quick and easy to do, took me about 15 minutes altogether.
End result is a like-new appearance, especially if your original weatherstripping might have become torn or damaged at some point.
Note that my 1300 X (1978) did not come from the factory with those little molded neoprene “bumpers” (located at the top corners of the targa bar, at the intersection of the targa bar, the back side edge of the door window, and the targa top itself). Instead, my weatherstripping is one long continuous piece, so again this J.C. Whitney material was a perfect replacement for me. But, my X is one of the very few ones that I have ever seen which did not include these “bumpers” (I am the original owner of the car, so there’s no chance that what I had was not OEM). If it would be your desire to retain these bumpers, you’d need to do some sort of a cut-and-splice operation so to incorporate your old “bumpers” into the new weatherstripping. Personally, I think the look w/o these “bumpers” is much cleaner than the appearance of the weatherstripping with them, so if I owned a car with tatty weatherstripping which came with these OEM “bumpers”, I’d consider leaving them off.
But, the best bit for last: Total cost of the 25 ft. roll of weatherstripping is only $29.99 USD plus shipping. Cheap and cheerful.
Website: http://www.jcw.com and do a Search on their part number as noted above.
I've used this molding, WA819909N, from the same resource... the BULB type, and it too has worked well, but a little too big. Ricardo has found some in the same configuration only smaller, and I believe he found it locally at a chain store parts house.
In any case... Hopefully he chimes in... and could BOTH of you place your findings up in BEST OF...under WHEATHERSTRIPPING.
My info is 3 years old but is still valid except for price... Thanks for the contribution.

Yeah, I also had tried some other Whitney weatherstripping in the past, quite likely the same model that you tried.
But I did not like the end result - the doors were really hard to shut without a bit of a slam, as the weatherstripping was (as you noted) too big.
That's why I wanted to go to the effort to post this one, as the specific model number in my first post of this thread is the Real Deal ... and cheap to boot!
The one differece I noticed though... is your chopice has the "bulb" sitting...
September 8 2008, 3:49 PM
... on TOP of the clip portion, and the original style and the one I selected has it on the side.
Is that indeed the case?
I hope Ricardo chimes in here with some facts about his selection... it appeared to be the most appropriate. I would agree with your choice also if it has the bulb on the side...
I'm also glad you are pleased... could you include a photo when you have a chance?
Thanks...

Right you are... I must've put in the wrong number retyping it...

Sorry for all the fuss... and it looks like you found a good choice. Thanks!

Dave, I'll almost guarantee that your '78 1300 X still has that annoying wind-whistle when the window/s are wound right up, (with roof on of course)!
It somehow seems to be worse on the RH side door window (driver's side on our RHD X's down here) according to some other X owners I have spoken to on this issue - body jig problem from Bertone, maybe?
My '78 certainly had that wind-noise until I fitted Ricardo's corner 'bumpers' to my car, and it has been 98% successful - just a VERY slight wind draft on the RH side.
Yeah, it does require cutting that weather strip to insert the bumper, but if you are careful with the amount you remove, and using GOOD contact rubber adhesive, you can finish up with an almost factory-finish appearance from the modification!
