Not doing K-Sports...for now....

October 14 2008 at 11:16 PM

I definitely will do K-Sports eventually, but not while I am still in Alaska. Here is why. I ran into a guy locally who had the K-Sports mounted on his Miata and we started talking, and I asked how they road and he said, "come on and see for yourself!. Let me tell you...they are awesome. He let me drive his car around a new parking lot and told me to turn the car loose, and it just road so nice. He sold me on the K-Sports....then he said, head over to the high school down the block....that was the deal breaker. I would say the parking lot is the equivalent of the roads in Seattle/Washington...maybe a little rougher, and the car was so smooth. But the road between the lot and the high school was a "well used" typical road in Alaska, lots of ruts and winter damage to it and it was all you could do to keep the car going straight. In an autocross setting, they seem like they would be a good alternative to GC or more expensive coilovers, but for Alaska street driving, I do not think I would like it for more than 10 minutes...

Just so you know, roads here suck. Even in my jeep, the ruts are so bad I sometimes feel like switching it into 4wd to change lanes. So my winter will be filled with some paint work, a little body work, and a lot of interior work.

Beyond that, I look forward to reports of K-Sports from those of you going for them, and I would love to hear if anyone else finds other options besides Ground Control and K-Sport for coilovers...
