Like the rest of you guys, I put on music that fits the mood of the story. Though mostly I avoid listening to music while concentrating, because when I multi-task, everything always turns out wrong ... ^_^;
As for what I listen to when I do ... hmm. When I write, I tend to listen to music from other anime soundtracks, like Fushigi Yuugi, Escaflowne, Magic Knight Rayearth etc. Because the music sets the mood of my fic, and then because I don't understand the words so it sounds foreign (giving it a uniqueness that I try to transfer to my fics).
For hauntingly bittersweet stuff, I like "Wings" from Escaflowne, as well as "Setsunakute" (I think that's the spelling, it means "Pain") from Magic Knight Rayearth, and definitely some of the sonatinas from 3x3 Eyes.
For more cheerful stuff, I love "I Wish" and "Maiden's Glamour" from Fushigi Yuugi, and "Mokona's March - Pu pu pu" from Magic Knight Rayearth.

I love Delerium! There's this almost otherworldly character to their music. My favourite song is "Aria", don't really understand the olde English but it's beautiful (and thank god there's a translation too). I swear, when I get around to it, I will use the lyrics somehow ...
So, Firespirit, have you finished chapter 10 of "It's Gonna Be Me"? ... just in case you have, could you send it to me? Pretty, pretty please? -soulful, pleading puppy dog eyes-
