I must say I throughly enjoyed playing through Redsun 2020, even if I am a few years late.
I thought the level design was impressive, and the writing when it was serious was well done, I really enjoyed this mod, and I hope you come back and fix it up a little.
The Cutscene scripting was also extremely impressive, and my hat is off to Steve's music...well if I had a hat.
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
There are a few things off the top of my head that I can think of that can be improved:
- The Humor needs to be toned down allot! The Windows joke got old rather fast, it was funny the first time I saw it, but to have it span the entire game was just to much, it would work allot better as a easter egg.
- The Ending, COME ON! To spend the entire game just to find out it was all a giant farce was a bit much, that coupled with the self aware line about "not writing the script" really killed the moment. It would have been much better if he had turned out to be your UNACTO boss.
The bit with Project Adam was good though.
- The whole story could do with some fleshing out...
- In the Aqua Grill, the glass floor was completely see-through, which made it look like you were walking across nothing, I think you should place a semi-transparent glass texture over the floor, so it looks like your walking on glass not nothing.
- The shrink ray was a bit much...would have been better if they were just experimenting with teleportation.
- Towards the end of the game I had absolutely no idea about the reasons behind what I was doing...something about stopping a general setting off a missile or something...but I don't remember being told why?
- Did I ever find out why they abducted the player character in the first place?
- Dark levels, like the railway plaza weren't fun, they would have been fun if you lit them up so I could see my way around...and gave me a map.
- Maps! You need to give the player more maps so we can find our way around. Especially for the dark levels like the railway plaza, perhaps you could place public terminals around the levels that would allow you to download maps of the area you are in.
- I loved the cities! But they were a bit sparse, would be cool if there was more that you could find in them, more secret places, more side missions.
- The underground city was a bit silly...it was just a japanese village in a huge cavern, would've been better if you'd designed it like a dwarven underground city (think Lord of the Rings) but with a futuristic Japanese influence, and you could make something up about it being abandoned by the Japanese Government when the gang in question released a bomb that allowed lava from one of Japans active Volcano's to flow into the city.
- More custom skins, especially of Japanese people, it feels weird to be walking around Japan and seeing heaps and heaps of Anglo-Saxons.
- Shouldn't the main player have Mechanical Augmentations like Gunther instead of Nano-Augmentation which were only coming into use during the oringally Deus Ex, which if I remember correctly is set quite a few years after Redsun 2020.
- This is more of a wish then a complaint, I love to play it through with voice acting.
...WOW...You'd think I hated the game, when in fact I thought it was allot of fun. I really enjoyed Redsun2020 but it felt like it was almost there but not quite, Its one of those games that annoys you so much not because its terrible but because its so close to being great!
Here's to hoping that you give it a bit more polish!
