Toren owns one. I saw it first hand in Carmel about a year ago. He said at the time it was the one watch he would never sell. It is stunning. It stood out dramatically in an otherwise very nice collection. I corresponded for a while with Roger Smith about his newer watches, but could never get the funds together. The prices are quite high....but if I had the money, I would purchase one of his creations before any other independent maker. There's just something about not only the quality of workmanship, but the sense that they are hand-made that makes them special. On top of that, Mr. Smith seems to be a very nice guy. Hopefully Toren or another owner will respond. Someday I will win the lotto and will buy the different models at auction. Until then.....
Sometimes ago, I heard that the series 2 will be in Singapore any time soon. It is a very english look wrist watch, with the tradation co-axis technology, it will not need any lub. oil for many many year. As for the price, is close to simplicity, correct me if I am wrong ! But it is a very beautiful watch to own.
I bought a Series 1 from Roger in 2003. I was delighted to put it mildly, both with the watch and with Roger's unstinting efforts to keep me informed during the process. I've since commissioned a one-off from him, which I'll make sure is described in detail on the Purists site when it's done.
Roger is a gentleman and a great, great artist/craftsman. I told part of the story in a Purists piece on November 13, 2003. I've since visited his workshop and seen more of his amazing work.
I'd encourage anyone interested in a Smith watch to move now, before he gets even more famous!
and conversing with him over several days last year during IGOTT/Tempus. He was extremely pleasant and helpful, in explaining his creations. I was very impressed by the level of detail and craft in his pieces, and the classical Breguet/English look is quite to my liking. His pieces are modern interpretations of the very finest of English horology from its heyday.
