earthquake mgmt. tips

Since I'm in the shake, rattle & roll area of earthquakes, just some tips everyone should think of.

1. get a wrench and put it on top of your hot water
heater, ready to turn off the natural gas or
propane (if you use LPG), then down the power
on your main circuit breaker box. Only shut off
gas main at the meter if it is spewing gas.

2. Do not drink tap water, last big one, the sewer
lines cracked and in less than 20 min's. invaded
the city water, was bad for 5 days. Store a little
water for pets too.

3. Have a broom and dust pan on hand, as sometimes
alot of broken glass from windows, mirrors, picture
frames. No electricity means no vacuums.

4. Be prepared with the basic things, like radio, food
pet food, and lighting.

5. Remove any heavy artwork, mirror, or decor above
your, and your childrens bed. Anchor any tall
top heavy furniture to the wall.

6. Preparing is basically like getting ready for a
camping trip, you know what you like and use.

7. Stay close to home, have a bicycle too, makes
touring the neighborhood damage easier.

8. Remove heavy kitchen appliances, or glass ware from
the high up cupboards. Best to put in lower
cupboards, less distance to fall.

Give emotional support to those who are frieking
even if you have to sugar coat your assurances.

All very good suggestions, Diazinon. Sounds like you're a So-Cal native...

One of the nice things about having your own forum, Diaz, is that no one can fuck with you. Dj and I were able to explore uncharted territory on a controversial subject because I don't put up with any bullshit or disruptions on an important topic.

And I'm certaily interested in hearing your thoughts on this matter. Fire away...

There is a website we all know the one. Not a sociable forum, and what I have learned thru observations I would rather not share it with the misfits on that board. I was trained to analyze.
A few forums I read at you need a password just to
read. It's nice knowing not many can get in.

Somehow, and I'm not racking my brain on this, my
e-mail address and log in password for your board here chem11 got in the hands of those misfits.

What I can offer in the way of knowledge, not discussed
at many boards, I wouldn't want to enable them at all.
