This is a good example of what I was talking about
when I said the other night, "Stop the hate"

Society is getting twisted.

Woman Jumps From Seattle Bridge

SEATTLE (AP) - A woman leaped off a 160-foot-high bridge Tuesday after authorities closed a busy interstate because passing motorists were yelling at her to jump.

The 28-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was rescued and taken to a hospital. There was no immediate word on her condition.

The woman was on the southbound side of the Interstate 5 bridge over the Ship Canal, near the University of Washington.

The northbound lanes were closed because of what Assistant Police Chief John Diaz called ``a very disturbing trend.''

``We had motorists, truckers, people in a Metro bus, screaming at her to jump,'' Diaz said.

Rush-hour traffic through Seattle was stalled for three hours as police tried to negotiate with the woman. She leaped at about 10 a.m., plunging into the canal.

``She kind of just cannonballed,'' said Holly Viola, who was caught in the traffic jam. ``She came up and she was swinging her arms, trying to swim.''

Fucked Up Beyond All Repair.

What in the living hell is wrong with people these days? A freeway full of sadistic sociopaths. I recall someone calling their local airport to complain about the spraying they were observing. The party on the other end curtly replied 'The American people deserve to be sprayed' and hung up the phone.

FUBAR IS TRUE

Hi chem11. I like the FUBAR, thanks for posting that,
it's good.

There seems to be alot of "mindless rage" as you well
know from moderating forums. Now society has gotten
braver and started speaking out loud.

Chem11, got a good one for you since we are talking
FUBAR. Had another moderator of a forum that is being
bulldozed as I type this by the code technician, seems
this moderator was a control freak, deleting other moderators post, and then putting their own text in place to insite troll wars amongst us all, then gave
out the password to the moderators room to other people
and is that not FUBAR??

It was fun being a moderator. I met alot of really
nice people. Mindless rage, FUBAR, and selfishness
hey, got any more good acronyms? I'll miss the
computer tech experience I was rapidly gaining.

I have no patience though for security risks.

The following, FWIW, is a nice gesture but psychiatrically, bridge jumers are not attention seekers, they are stead fast in committing suicide.
Attn. seekers who choose for example, 3 sleeping pills
shy of an over dose do not want to die, this poor woman did.

Suicidal Woman Receives Apologies
The Associated Press
Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001; 3:39 p.m. EDT

SEATTLE –– Bouquets, cards, e-mails and calls poured into a hospital as Seattle residents tried to make amends to a suicidal woman who leaped off a bridge as motorists cursed her and yelled at her to jump.

The 26-year-old was listed in serious condition with a spinal fracture and chest and abdominal injuries but was expected to recover fully.

"In a small way, they're trying to say that Seattle would like to define itself in a more positive way," said Patrick Tefft, a Harborview Medical Center employee in the volunteer office.

The woman, whose name has not been released, jumped Tuesday from a 160-foot-high bridge into a canal. Some people, stalled in traffic on an Interstate 5 bridge, screamed at her during the three-hour standoff.

"I couldn't sleep last night thinking about her," said Debbie Guerrero, a social worker who brought the woman a letter. "I want her to know how much she matters and how much she is loved."

More than 100 people called the hospital to wish her well, spokeswoman Marsha Rule said.

A few motorists were still angry on Wednesday, sending e-mails and calling the Seattle Post-Intelligencer to blame the woman for not choosing a less-traveled site to end her life.

The woman was hired as a lobbyist for the Washington Realtors Association this year but took a leave of absence soon after she started, according to lobbyist Ed Owens. The Seattle Times reported that she was distraught over a relationship.

There have been at least 10 suicide attempts off the Ship Canal Bridge since 1966. Three people, including the woman who jumped on Tuesday, survived.

The End

I agree, Diazinon. This woman clearly wanted to die. A bad relationship can definately screw with your head. Poor thing.

And you know what prompted sickening display of sadism? Traffic. Seattle has the worst traffic in the country and these people felt put-out enough to encourage this lady to kill herself. Road-rage, pure and simple. Meanwhile the city-council continues to twiddle it's thumbs and hope the problem somehow mysteriously disappears. The big issue that has been dominating the local political landscape is whether or not to install six pay-toilets downtown.

The entire city has become blatantly dysfunctional. It was never designed to accomodate this many people. And because of the layout and the geography, there isn't much that can be done. As long as people keep moving here, rents will continue to skyrocket, traffic will become even more intolerable and people will continue to dehumanize.

And 30,000 feet above their heads, the sprayplanes continue their misssion while vast majority of the population stumbles around believing that things will somehow get better on there own.

I'm not a terribly apocalyptic person by nature, but our society simply isn't sustainable. The high-tech economy's bubble has burst and all we are left to trade-off of is our dwindling natural resources.

And the rest of the planet isn't doing much better. We're going to have to put away all the weapons of mass destruction, and concentrate on our species survival instead of putting all this time and effort into developing new and better ways of killing each other.
