Hi, Matthew,
Check with London Jewelers or the AP Boutiques (NYC; Bal Harbour, Florida) - any of them should be able to conform availability before any long drives.
"Thank you for the information about the movement as well as your personal experiences with this watch.
What made you choose the Montauk Highway as opposed to a different SE? "
Oops, sorry, misreading of my comments. I've have fairly extensive experience with the cal. 3126 (and 3120) movement, not this specific watch (the Montauk) We premiered the first in depth review of the (pre-series) cal. 3120 movement many years ago, before it went into full production.
It doesn't call to me, personally, but as I noted, it is far more interesting in person than just in pictures.
"Any idea on current availability? I have read that the watch is not selling as fast as the Team Alghini model but is still a desired watch. Before I re-arrange my schedule so I can head back up to the Hamptons in the near future, it may be wisest if I called London Jewelers ahead of time to verify availability. "
Any comments you read about how well a model are selling, here or elsewhere, are completely meaningless. Bottom line, unless you are planning on reselling or flipping, who cares? You only care if there is a piece available when you are looking, so you can see it to consider it, and if you like it, you only care about the satisfaction you will get when you own and wear it. Who cares what others think? I don't order my wine or choose my entrees or decide what to drive or wear based on what others think, and indirectly, how well it is selling, as a result.
I would not get a watch that is selling well, if I didn't like it, and I would not NOT buy a watch because no one else appreciates it. In fact, I'd PREFER the watch that most others don't get - I won't have to suffer seeing my watch on every wrist going by...
But as I wrote elsewhere, if you are unsure, and need the "safety net" of being able to get out of it should you decide it is NOT for you, I'd proceed very, very cautiously...
(comments based on 30 plus years of personal collecting and market watching and industry observations...but hey, what do I know?)
Cheers, and let us know what you decide.
TM
