Last Tuesday took place at the recently renovated Palais de Tokyo the inaugural Party of the Royal Oak 40 years exhibition.

The idea behind the exhibition is to present us some very rare pieces from the Audemars Piguet Museum but also to make us understand how the original design by Gérald Genta has evolved during 40 years. From the original two hands watch to the most complicated Royal Oak created by Renaud&Papi, the Gérald Genta design has stood the test of time. It is the reason why the Royal Oak has become one of the very few iconic watches of the industry.

Amongst the key watches of the exhibition, we can highlight the original Royal Oak, the 1981 PC, the 2002 Concept, the 1986 Championship and the strange Automatic Tourbillon with date and power reserve displays (and the crown on the caseback)... without forgetting the rectangular Royal Oak!

The objective of the Party was to create a stunning event in order to support the Audemars Piguet communication in France. I would say that the message was: Audemars Piguet is back with a better presence and more ambition!

Actually, the event gathered a lot of famous people including some coming from abroad like Pete Doherty. French actresses (Virginie Ledoyen, Clautilde Coureau), actors (Lambert Wilson, Patrick Bruel), singers (Angoon), executives (Bertrand Meheut, Alexandre Bompard) and the other 800 guests enjoyed the party which started around 8pm and lasted several hours.

I propose you to browse some pics of the Party.

It was crowded like Central Station at 5pm.... a big success for the organization team but maybe not the best time slot to visit the exhibition!

Mrs Jasmine Audemars gives us the context of the creation of the Royal Oak and the reasons why the watch is now an Icon. She also reminds us that Audemars Piguet is the unique independant Manufacture which still belongs to the family of his founder.

Change of atmosphere with french singer Woodkid... it was like jumping from the Royal Oak Jumbo to the ROO Terminator 3!

But the only star of the event was the original Royal Oak, the spark which was the inception a true dynasty:
