this watch is an achievement in ugly. It goes to show that no matter how hard you try to make a watch ugly by adding awful design elements (like with the Barichello 3), less truly is more.
I apologize for my unfavorable comments, but all I have to say is, "really?"
I have no problems with opinions that dislike a model or design.

Hi, R,
Feel free to express displeasure or dislike (without resorting to slagging or ad hominem attacks, of course) and even, gasp! sarcasm, as is obvious in your post.
Please careful, though, not to take it too much further in the direction of pure venom without any substantive commentary.
Thanks,
TM
"A Purist does not believe in gilt by association. Respect, AND disdain, have to be earned..."
I totally understand your point Thomas. Perhaps I have been guilty of a similar reaction regarding another one of APs novelties...
Tone aside, I have to say, this is ridiculous. Unfortunately I do not have enough knowledge to know whether AP's attempt at price discrimination is effective (especially moving forward); however, putting prices like these on such watches must be killing ADs (I imagine mine must be screwed- and I am sad for them and my town (to the extent that you can be sad about such things, which is admittedly limited)). The whole AD business model is probably another discussion, but I will just say that it takes a lot of self control not to throw out sarcastic remarks at some of the stuff AP is trying to get away with.
I really am losing the point of this whole watch interest of mine... I would be concerned for you if things like this didnt cause you to question from time to time as well...
when I first saw this watch (on the AP homepage) I fell in love with it. Tried to find more information (diameter), failed so far. But then I saw this price ...
I have no understanding at all why AP sets the price at this level. There is a nice movement, 2120, but this was developed already in 1968 or so by Jaeger (for AP, Vacheron and Patek; I have - and love - a RO perpetual with this base calibre). So the movement is nothing new, 40 years old. Therefore "costs for developing a new calibre" are not there. Platinum - yeah, not cheap, lots of work to brush an polish.
But 51k? You almost get a Patek annual calender (in platinum) for that. And Patek is not really "cheap".
I agree also on Jeans comment: many ADs are forced by the watch companies (not just by AP) to buy "normal" models to qualify for an allocation of more interesting/rare pieces. So they have to buy the Tradition. But then? Sitting in the shop? Or ending up with big discounts in the grey market ...
In other words: when I raise critics - in a nice and soft or not so nice and not so soft way - I thought about it before raising it.
And I will not buy the Tradition (also because I think it is a bit too big for my taste) - but there might be great bargains in the grey market coming up ...

Appreciate the late night uploads, Anthony...look forward to more tomorrow

So far I like the JA pieces the most, followed by the Millenary chrono. It is nice to see these lines getting some much deserved attention. The Tradition line and the various diamond studded ROs and Millenarys do not of interest to me, nor do the various ROO limited editions (except for the black titanium one).
If possible, can you get a pic of the deployant on the Las Vegas LE. I'm wondering if it is fully PVD/DLC/blackened or just the outer parts. I remember seeing the Bartorelli scuba and it is bright polished stainless steel on the inside hinged part and PVD'd just on the clasp.
Thanks again for the hard work and dedication in providing us these updates so quickly!
Anthony - thanks for quick report. AP - loosing sense of reality...
January 20 2009, 10:21 AM
My first impression - AP is trying to squeeze up its customers. What's a reason to price watches so high during fin crisis? I mean the Tradition - two hands simple watch for $51K - ???; and the Ti Las Vegas - RBII for $23K vs this one for $29K.
No problem at all. Will post more later. got to go to AP dinner now
January 20 2009, 6:46 PM
These brand dinners after the show really eat up all your time to be able to post any info if you have a packed schedule of appointments during the day
Ohhhhhhhhhh the Charcoal dial is smokin' hot!!!!!!!!!!!
January 20 2009, 7:09 PM
I always thought they should have used the RGRC dial on a steel offshore like the orchard road. Seems a bit darker. Wow that is a nice piece! Love the black numerals
I love the new Offshore dials. According to the AP web site, each of the two new dials is available with strap or bracelet, in steel or titanium. The only dilemma will be selecting the best permutation.
Anyone know whether the black hands and Arabics are luminous?
Thank you, Anthony, for all you do for the PuristS.
I took pics of whatever was brought out for me to see. And there is always the possiblity of not seeing every different make and model of the regular production Offshores.
rose gold with baby blue numerals
estimated retail price of $35,600
Full Spec Sheet of the AP Millenary Chronograph from press kit:
Millenary Chronograph
Since its renewal in 2006, the Millenary collection has been regularly enriched with new timepieces: a complete range of self-winding watches; several prestigious editions such as the Millenary MC12 Tourbillon and Chronograph or the Cabinet No. 5 in the Tradition dExcellence collection; along with the Millenary with deadbeat seconds. However, a chronograph was definitely lacking in this range a gap that has now been filled with this new model that is writing a fresh chapter in the fascinating story of the Millenary.
- A new complex mechanism within the Millenary collection: the chronograph
- A two-zone design, the signature feature of the Millenary collection
- Applied pink gold Roman numerals

AP has done it again, Fantastic watches, they've proved there are the best Large....
January 20 2009, 9:22 PM
Horological House out there, the new Offshores, the JA Escapement, the Tradition some unbelievable new pieces, Modern Cutting Edge and Traditional High End Horology, no other house does that both or aswell as AP.
They deserve out admiration and praise as collectors.
First of all, thanks Anthony for your fine work and photos.

I continue to like the cream dial JA chrono. The color of the hands look charcoal gray. Or are they black and matching the color of the numerals?
I also like the Ladies' ROO. The truncated numerals are a little off-putting, but overall it's an interesting watch imho. On the right lady, it would look very sexy.
I'm struck, however, by the number of watches with red accents. Is red the new designer color? Frankly, it's getting tedious already.
Hands on the Jules Audemar chrono look to be dark grey, not black
January 21 2009, 1:15 AM
A lot of brands using red in their watches whenever black is the dominant color of the case (black PVD or DLC). I would assume it's just a design influence because black and red pair nicely IMO.
Very very cool watch IMO. The repeater hammers on the back are blued and easily visible through the display back so you can see the hammers in action when slide is activated.
Sorry don't have a picture of the exhibition back yet. Hopefully tomorrow if I get lucky.
Chalcedony is a blue tinted stone from the quartz family. From far away, it looks like white plastic to tell you the truth.
Brown stingray strap
18kt pink gold case - 45x40mm
Openworked chalcedony mainplate which is one entire piece
AP will produce around 20 pieces per year
estimated retail price is 420'000 CHF
AP NY Boutique is moving across the street to a space which is 3 times larger.
Watches made in 2008 totalled 29,000 with an average price point of $40k
Estimated watches to be made in 2009 is less at 28,000 with an average price point of $45k
OK, all you naysayers, critics, bashers, let's hear the love for a change. Forged carbon, ceramic bezel, black and yellow, and non-LE - who says AP does not listen?
Hey Anthony, great pics as always. This ROO looks fantastic, I really like the yellow and black, with a regular ROO carbon forged case, ceramic bezel and PVD'd buckle. And the best news is that it's limited production like the Volcano. IMHO, it combines a lot of features that most AP fans are looking for. Can't wait to see it in person.
fantastic pictures. This is a great report. We are so lucky to have a person like you.
This is my favorite picture thusfar... I am sure that someday it will make its way to the masthead.
