ROO Advice Needed

I am looking to get a ROO and am hoping to get some advice from all the experienced folks out there. I have been looking at the Navy for a while now but realize a couple of things:
1. the case is 42 mm (little small but not bad)
2. strap limitation due to the blue sub dials

My questions:
1. Is there any basic (not limited edition) ROO model in SS that is 44 or more?
2. Any experience putting different (black or brown) straps on the Navy? If so, please share your thoughts on this and also any pictures to get a visual.

The Safari seems more "forgiving" in terms of different colored straps from what I have seen. I like the Safari, but love the look of the Navy dial.

Thanks much.

ROO Size and Straps

November 2 2009, 9:03 PM

Manish,

All of the non-limited ROO chronographs are the same size, which is measured as 42 mm at the base of the bezel and 44 mm from case edge to crown protector edge.

Offshores were not designed or intended for frequent strap changes, but the expectation of being able to change straps appears to have increased over recent years as Paneristi have taken to Offshores. AP's decisions about the sale of plots and tools has led many to interpret their motives as discouraging strap changing and other customization. I'd venture to say that some of the grumpy old timers frown on the practice of changing straps as the work of impetuous youngsters.

There is certainly a variety of AP and aftermarket straps available, but it's difficult to see how anything that wasn't blue, black, or white would look good with the Navy dial and blue rubber elements.

If you want great strap versality, you might look at one of the several silver dialed Offshores that were supplied on a strap. All but the latest version avoid introducing other colors, so you could add a strap of any color of the rainbow without clashing.

Thanks

Thanks for the input Park. I promise not to be an impetuous youngster (I love the way you worded that directive by the way...touche!) and offend the wise old men happy.gif

The reason I asked isn't because I want to change straps frequently, I dont even do it with my Panerai. You see, I love the dial with the blue, but the blue strap I feel limits the usage of the watch. So if indeed if after getting one, I feel that my options were limited in using the nave due to the blue strap, it would be nice to be able to change it out for another (say brown or black) and make it more versatile.

I am much newer to AP's still and am reading all that I can and asking around before taking the leap. I must say though that I tried on a Navy a few weeks ago and it felt fantastic on the wrist.

Have you thought about getting one of the new white or navy blue ruber straps for it possibly? I looked at a Tai Pei LE at the boutique and thought it would look pretty sweet with a white or blue rubber strap as another option..?

Failing that the brown hornback might work with it but I think that the blue subdials do limit it a bit to blues and white combos.
