Hi Guys looking for a bit of guidance, I am looking at getting my first AP watch, I've spent the last 3 or 4 nights researching on what I would like, unfortunately the closest dealer to my place is 1,000 km away, I live in Australia, all research is done on the net.
I love the ROO Rose Gold Rubber clad but out of my watch budget, I am looking to spend around the $15k mark for a good deal I might stretch a bit.
I want a 44 mm watch, I haven't tried one on my hand and I think I will end up buying a watch without trying one.
Which model do you guys think I should go for?
Suggestions please.
Thank you in advance.
I posted something similar asking for guidance last week and ended up buying a Roe gold rubber clad!! If I didnt have the funds for this though I would have pulled the trigger on the stainless steel black face rubber clad because for me thats the next closest thing to the RG!!
Have you looked at the themes? I like the white dial one.
I do have the funds but my self imposed limit for a watch is $15k even that I think is going overboard.
Im personally not a fan of the white dial theme! I will probably get flamed for this but I dont think it looks as nice as any of the other models! At first I didnt want an AP with a white dial because in the pictures I thought the black dials looked more elegant. I did see a white dial theme and a white dial rubber clad, the white dial rubber clad really stood out looked far better in the flesh, the white dial theme didnt move me when I saw it! But hey everyone is different I liked the volcano and that watch is like marmite you either love it or hate it.
I would have to agree on the white themes (as much as it pains me to say). I was all set on the white themes on bracelet until I actually saw it in person a few weeks back when I was in NY. The pictures online and in the catalogue are quite a bit different compared to the real thing. The lume on the hands and hour markers is quite green and kind of spoils the look of it (IMO). The white dial rubberclad (even thought it has the same dial) comes off much nicer.
*Although it may have just been that one and only white themes I saw - does anyone have wrost shots of the white themes? Whether on bracelet or strap???
As a result I think I'm now leaning more towards the black themes on bracelet or possible the blue dial with white subdials (unless somehow I fluke out financially and can get the RG rubberclad cause that watch is unreal!!!).
In any event, for a 44mm watch the ROO is great, I loved the fit. Not too big, not too small - just right. And great for all uses. I can't wait to finally pull the triger on one!
I saw one on ebay that I quite like but as you say internet photos can look deceiving, the one I saw has white dial and black subdials, hornback it looked very good.
I could post a shot but I must ask first if it is permitted here, the photos are not mine, they belong to the ebay seller.
If I am allowed to I could post a shot.
I don't mean to brag but funds isn't the reason why I am not buying an RG ROO, just the thought of spending $30k for a wrist watch is a bit though to swallow for me, I know some of you guys have no issues doing that and I can certainly sympathize, I do spend a lot of money on sports cars, that's my weakness and don't we all have one?
I think if I were able to see one in a shop and try it on it would assist me in making a decision.
Sight unseen $15k is my self imposed limit.
Now that we know more from you and your target, have you considered a vacation/trip to a place that has a AP AD? Might be worth it to fly out and check it out, plus you get to have a vacation out of it! Almost like taking a delivery of a nice sports car direct from the factory.
BTW, since you are into cars, we have a automobile forum (http://www.network54.com/Forum/225162/ )! Hope you will share pics of your sports cars with the rest of us!
Funny you mentioned that, I just got back from a 3 month european trip, my interest in this particular brand was sparked by some of my fellow members on Lambopwer a Lamborghini forum that I am part of, they gave me the details of this website. i started doing internet research on it and here I am.
First chance I have to fly out I will make sure I visit an AP dealer.
I will have a look at your car section and post some shots of my car when I get some spare time this weekend.
When I get myself a watch I will post some shots, if any of you guys have a good deal that my think would suit me please contact me.
In my opinion, if you are going to have only one(kidding)the black themes is the most versatile one. If you put a rubber strap on, it is very sporty, and with a hornback it looks very elegant.
Thank you Victor, this is the watch that I want to buy
26170ST.OO.D101CR.02
(no idea how to add photos)
The description says AP ROO Chrono Themes
I do have one question, can anyone tell me the size of the case, some info on the net suggests 42 mm and other 44 mm
Can anyone please confirm it for me?
Thank you in advance.
The case dimensions vary depending on how you measure it. Some will measure across the case to the crown, case to case, case to the side crown protector, or across the bezel. Most consider the Offshore chrono a 44mm watch. Hope this helps.
Thank you for the shot Victor, that's a nice display, are you are watch retailer or someone with issues ha ha ha?
Can you expend a bit more on why you prefer the black theme for an everyday watch? I will wear mine daily.
As it stands now my absolute favorite out of the above is the white dial one, once again thank you for the shot it shows the proportions of the watch very well, if I had to guess your wrist size is similar with mine.
Thank you Victor
I am not a retailer so i guess i have issues. I agree with you that the silver themes is the best looking "regular" AP. That is why i bought it,but i like for my everyday watch to be an "all arounder" which means that i can wear it to the beach, or pool, wear it when it is a hot sweaty day, while also be able to wear it to the office or a nice restaurant. I also like my everyday watch to be slightly understated so it does not draw to much unwanted attention(burglars or the like) I have an 8 inch wrist so i like a big watch, but in my opinion the black themes has the perfect balance for an everyday watch. I wear the silver themes, usually when I go out at night and it is not a formal function. It looks great, but with the leather strap, i don't use it for the beach or the pool, and since i live in a tropical island, i usually don't wear it during the day, because it is usually hot outside. I thought about putting a rubber strap on it, but it does not look as nice, and the silver face draws too much attention anyways. That is just my personal preference, but any ROO is an awesome watch.
Best regards
Victor
Thank you Victor for your explanation, I love the leather strap do you think getting it wet would be an issue? I live in Australia, beach, heat, sand etc
Sorry my questions might seem strange, as I mentioned before there is no AP retailer where I live and only research I can do is online.
It has been my experience that the leather straps deteriorate very rapidly when exposed to water or sweat. I think that AP makes it a point to mention not to get the leather straps wet. That is why for a daily wear watch I always wear it on a ss bracelet or a rubber strap.
Regards
Victor
Hi Guys
thank you very much for the help and support during my decision making process, after a month of searching I've managed to find what I wanted and pulled the trigger on a AP ROO 26170ST.OO.1000ST.01 silver dial metal bracelet, I was looking everywhere for the hornback but I wasn't able to find one, maybe it's for the best, finding a replacement metal bracelet seems more difficult than a hornback.
The watch should arrive next week, I am very excited, I will post some shots when I get it!
Ha ha ha
I know what you mean, I think I am already hooked, I already established an order of purchase I am thinking next rubberclad RG than Pride of Russia I love that watch!
I am trying not to think about it but I am very anxious to get the watch I will make a new post with photos when I get it!
