G'day,
today iīd like to highlight a piece in the Girard-Perregaux collection that i like very much and i regard very special.
Itīs the beautiful ultra-thin reference 47620 and if thereīs one model that deserves to be included in the "Classique Elegance" line, then i think itīs this one.
Itīs a classic dress watch, measuring 34mm width and only 5mm height and it comes with a 9 ligne manual ultra-thin wind movement which i suspect to be based on the Frederic Piguet calibre 21 (one of the thinnest movements ever made with 1.73mm heigth).
But itīs not only the movement that makes it special; that is one of the watches iīm so very fond because of itīs classic and timeless look.
Only available in white and rosé gold, it makes a perfect companion for the formal occasions and elegant evening dress. But iīd say it may go well with a more casual look, since itīs timeless chic and style is never inappropiate. Itīs a precious piece, therefore no steel version is to come.
I think itīs a watch that perfectly adds to the current GP pieces, which often do have a more sporty note. Although there is some competition, like
- Audemars Piguet "Classiques" ref. 14667BA.O.0001CR.01 with AP2003,
- Blancpain "Villeret" ultra-slim ref. 0021-3427-55, sporting a Frederic Piguet 21,
- Jaeger-LeCoultre "Master Ultra Thin" with JLC calibre 849,
- Vacheron Constantin "Extra Plate" or "Patrimony", ref. 33093/33092 with VC calibre 1003,
the ultra-thin watches seem to be a pretty rare species.
And rare is GPīs ref. 47620 in every case (

): Of the predessor ref. 47600 only a few hundred pieces were made and current plans do not include to do more of the 47620.
As itīs not included in the current catalogues, i do hope you enjoy some impressions and details. As i think true beauty does not need big words and this one really speaks for itself, here we go with the watch i regard to be one of the most beautiful pieces by GP:

And as a very special piece, this model and a version sporting an automatic GP 3000 calibre is available in the Haute Horlogerie range with fully sceletonized movements...
Enjoy!

Peter
