Crystal backs - a "must have"?

Dear enthusiasts,

as you may noticed, the reference 2593 has been updated to reference 25932. As presented in Geneva earlier this year, this smaller watch now sports a crystal back:

It made me think about the advantage of having free sight of what makes mechanical watches (and GP pieces in particular) so special. Personally, i really appreciate to see a movement working. The steady turns of the balance, accompanied by the "breathing" of the hair spring, does have quite some magic for me.
Therefore, i do not mind if a piece looses a bit of water resistance due to the sapphire back. On the other hand, i´m not sure i´d think likely for the Sea Hawk, which is a serious diver´s watch.

I´m curious what you think of crystal backs? Do you appreciate to see the movement? Or appreciate more to have a more resistant solid back?

Your input is very welcome, so let us know!

Greetings from germany,

Peter
