...in driveable condition. Haven't got tons of money, but willing to pay what it's worth for the right car.

Don't know anything about them, but there have been two GT40's advertised in Autoweek for the last 2 weeks. One is a genuine Mk1 (ad says with race history) for $430,000 plus. Out of most guys reach for sure.
The other is advertised as a "factory built" car although it doesn't say what factory. Cost on it was around $85,000 I beleive. Don't have the phone numbers handy, but can get them if you want.
Again, I know nothing about these cars, just passing the ad info along.

What price range are you looking in? I've never seen one for less than $60k complete, and the one I'm thinking of was not that great.
Picking up a replica kit and building could get you one for $55k if you are careful.
You could also try one of the South African GT40s that arrives less engine. Everything is done, paint etc, just add the motor, $59-$65 with normal options. Could probably get one of these in the $65-70k range complete.
Or, pick up a non completed kit such as the one listed on the main page, part-built KVA. Save lots I'm sure.

i know of a person that is selling a fiberfab gt40(i think) for $1000 bucks(body only). it goes on a VW chasis and uses parts of a corvair and VW. i'm not very sure about the original looks of the car but if you are interested then you can contact me at my shop and i'll tell you more about it.
