In the latest issue of Automobile magazine, turn to page 24.
It talks about Ford's new project: "Project Petunia," it says that the guy who worked on the EXREMELY beautiful 49 Concept, is taking on this new challenge of building a retro-high performance rwd sports car based on the the GT40!!! It says that it is possible to get this car into low volume production.

I have the article in front of me and yes it's true. Sounds like they may come up with something. I can't believe though it will resemble the original too much as it will have to conform to todays standards (ie) low headlights etc. I have to believe it will have to be very close to the original to succeed. They talk about possibly unveiling it at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January of 2002. That's like in six months. I can't build a replica that fast. Anyway they also talk about using suspension from a Jaguar S type or Lincoln LS or Thunderbird. It will probably be built in Europe by Pininfarina which is contracted to build the upcoming Ford Street Ka roadster. I'm going to try and get more info and I'll keep you posted.
