i called griffin and WOW!!!! its about $850 bucks for a radiator. a local shop will do it for about $450 but not an aluminum piece. then there is a local guy that he can get me an aluminum radiator for $400 bucks. the only problem is that its two 1" cores. the recomended size for the aplication is twin 1.5" cores. my question is... is it going to be enough being that its 1" less than the recomended radiator size? i asked two local mustang specialists and they said that it was going to be just fine. but i'm concerned... should i be??? the motor is a 408W with about 500 hp... what do you guys think?

thanks

luis

If you can get me the dementions I will talk to my radiator guy and give you a price. I think I can get close to your $400 expectations.

One of the biggest complaints with the GT40 is overheating. Don't skimp on the rad. Try and go for a four core or at least a two core at 1.5" Also the pipes going from the rad to the engine should be between 1 1/4" to 1 1/2". This will move more coolant fromt the rad to the engine.

thanks for the advice paul. the radiator that i ordered is 28 inches long by 12 inches tall with twin 1 inch cores. the tanks at the ends are 2 inches each. this radiator is 2 inches thick and i would like it to be 3 inches thick. this radiator costs $400 but i don't know if i'm going to need a thicker one for better cooling.

gordon, if you could find out about this size radiator i would appreciate the effort.

thanks

I checked on your radiator. It's very expensive but it will cool the engine. If you are interested I need a drawing of the radiator, were the inlet and outlet tubes are etc.

Radiator Size & Piping

You need to run the largest radiator core that you can. Also you need to run a 'vent' pipe, about 1/4" diameter, from the top of the radiator outlet side tank back to the main filler/header tank. This will vent the radiator and stop airlocks. I know this from experience as I run a GTD40 with a 400bhp, 302 in hillclimbs and sprints in the UK. I had overheating problems until I fitted this vent pipe and all my problems were solved. Try it.
