Response to Re: New JW Booklet available at LHMM

This booklet was writting in the 1950's by Bro Raymond Jolly. The "new" booklet is essentially the same booklet... it has just been updated with more recent references on the same points from their last major work in 1993. Also included is the information re: the United Nations scandal... so if someone is reading into this booklet a new course of action or a new attitude, it is because they are blinded somewhat by the present sifting... for the language is over 50 years old. Please compare it to the former booklet of the same name.

We do not have a particular bone to pick with the Jehovahs Witnesses. In fact, care was taken in this booklet at its beginning to show some of their teachings that we fully support. A careful investigation of the teachings of all of the denominations will find a similar condition among them; i.e., that they hold many teachings that are good and true as well as some that are at least questionable. Our business is not to attack and denounce the teachings and ministries of others, but we often are questioned as to the Jehovahs Witnesses because we do hold some things in common with them. They claim that their Society was founded by the late Pastor Charles Russell. We find ourselves much in agreement with his writings on the Scriptures and we even have republished them and distribute them wherever we can find an audience. The Watch Tower Society however, though claiming him as their founder, decline even to allow their own parishioners to read his works!

It appears to be part of our fallen human nature to follow rather than to investigate for ourselves as to just was is or is not true in regards to Biblical teaching. We see in the majority of the great Bible teachers of the past, that they did much good work toward clarifying the true meaning of the Bible. Men like Wesley, Luther, Zwingli, Campbell, Miller, and certainly not leaving out Charles Russell; yet we see that in all cases, at the passing of these great leaders of Gods people that the majority of their followers huddled around their teachings and proclaimed thus far and no further. Then the general trend has been that they have migrated more or less in various ways over time away from the very teachings that once excited them. We view the truth on Gods Word as progressive, and understand that the great falling away that the Apostle Paul prophesied in 2 Thess. 2:3 as to the original teachings they gave us has been fulfilled, and that these great religious teachers during the time of the great Reformation began to slowly trek their way back to their initial thinking. Charles Russells work in a nutshell, pulled together many of the various teachings of these former teachers into one place and brought much harmony to them. Since his passing in 1916, the Society he founded was torn into a number of segmented groups, and this one (beginning with Rutherford) who secured the original name of Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society has in effect, over the last 90 years, given up the majority of the teachings he brought forth. So, while being willing to give credit where credit is due, we honor them in that which they teach that we feel finds agreement with the Holy Scriptures and yet seek to clarify where we think they engage in error. You will note in this booklet that there is no hatred or malice present in the language. We do consider them to be our brethren in Christ, even though they do not return that sentiment for the most part.
