| I went there once! ... Was on my way home from a convention. At the time this part of the cemetery was quite neglected. Since then it seems someone is caring for the gravesites again... the Society I suppose. A few years back someone defaced Bro. Russell's tombstone... and then as quickly it was repaired.
When I wasa there I stood trying to get a sense of the history of the place. I remember how Bro Russell left some $200 or so for his burial. Do any of you think he purposed that the pyramid be erected there? Does anyone really think he cared what became of the flesh he'd just finished crucifying?
Viewing the old photos of the funeral... it is strange just to think of it... all those who loved him so there standing somewhat in harmony for the very last time. Soon, thereafter, the many would begin to go their separate ways into what would become the many division of today. I guess it was because he was not here to lead them, and most of them had not really made the truth their own.. and as he had warned them, if they did not, they would fall. Just like the followers of any other reformer, the denominationalizing would begin, and so would the creed making. Only now, after nearly 90 years, brethren of the various groups are having considerable exchanges of conversation,... but sad to say the most of it is by those of us sitting behind computer screens in our homes... using assumed names so no one will know our true identities... Time heals all wounds, and in the Lord's own due time, this schism will too be healed... I look forward to that.
God Bless
