In vol. 3 [page 223] Bro Russell applied the penny of the Penny parable [Matt 20:1-16] as representing Kingdom honors, and in June 1914 [Z5473, col. 1, bottom] he referred to the murmuring coming after the Penny was received, and asked:, How then can we apply this Parable consistently in harmony with the teachings of other Scriptures respecting the reward of the Kingdom class? He answered:
We can think of only one way, and that is to apply the parable entirely to present-life experiences of the kingdom class, especially of those who will be living at the close of this Gospel Age.
Thus seen, the Penny proved to be a special feature of the hundredfold received in this life [Mark 10:29, 30]. Its first distribution at the hands of Bro Russell, that servant, the steward of the parable [Matt 20: 8,9; Matt 24: 45-47], was the granting of a special Kingdom honor for all the saints, all the remaining Little Flock members the honor of sharing in a particular service from the fall of 1914 to that of 1916. This special honor is pictured also in all the saints use of the symbolic two-edged sword in executing judgment in Psalm 149:5-9. See Z5451; 5631-32; 5803 and in their taking part in the antitypical first smiting of Jordan.
Gods Word presents different types, illustrating from various standpoints the Little Flocks special work that took place from the fall of 1914 to 1916 The Penny parable is one of these; it also proves that the reaping of the Little Flock had ended be fore the fall of 1916, for their reaping had to precede their receiving the Penny, their privilege of engaging in this special work.
The evening of the Parable ended the 40-year reaping day, because at the coming of the evening the steward began to give the Penny to the reapers as their hire for the completed days work. But the Penny was the special kingdom honor corresponding to the privilege given to the Little Flock, the antitypical Elijah, of engaging in the antitypical first smiting of Jordan, which began Sept 20, 1914, therefore the reaping ended before that day.
Bro Russell stated The due time for the wrath was Sept. 21 Z5632 col. 2 - para 5
