Gav: Huh! Que tal?? A este ya le dio el sentimentalismo!! Usted habla como si el salario de cualquiera de estos le fuera a costar la vida pues! y lo fuera a dejar en la calle!! PEro lo que ellos se ganan en un mes Usted se lo gasta en un restaurante elegante de Bogota con su mujer!!
Seb: (by now he is shouting to the max of his lungs capacity... lol!!) Ah, si?? Pero Usted esta hablando de un jornal!! Yo hablo de ochocientos!! Tome esa cifra que tiene en la cabeza!! Multipliquelo por ochocientos!! Dividalo por el numero de sacos que produce la hacienda!! Sumele a eso el costo de la produccion!! Y digame a ver en cuanto queda un saco de cafe pergamino!! Digame a ver!!
Gav: Porque no lo exporta a ver si le saca la ganancia?? No es que es exportador pues??
Seb: NO,no, no!! Yo soy CAFICULTOR!!!
Gav: Entonces que hace gerenciando CafeExport??
Seb: Permiso! (grabs her arm and pulls her away from the others) Usted sabe muy bien!! Que yo acepte ese puesto por estar a su lado!! Si Usted no se hubiera cruzado en mi vida, yo estaria del todo en mi hacienda!! Y USted sabe tambien!... que de las exportaciones de cafe!... YO no veo un PESO!!... de ese dinero! Asi es que creo que es hora!... de que pare de mostrarme como un monstruo con esta gente!! Ah?? Yo vivo de esta tierra!! Vivo del cafe igual que todos Ustedes!!
Gav: Pues ni hable!... como si fuera cualquiera de nosotros porque... no se le ve bien!
Seb: Ah no?? Yo soy de esta tierra!! Mis abuelos nacieron aqui!! Mis padres nacieron aqui!! Mi sangre es de esta tierra!!
Gav: Si, mi Señor!! Pero ninguno de nosotros tiene ni su apellido! ni su hacienda! Ni nos han mandado a Londres a estudiar!! Asi que Usted esta aqui porque le conviene a su bolsillo!
Seb: NO!! Yo estoy aqui porque yo pertenezco aqui!! Igual que todos Ustedes!!
Carm: Vea, mija! Nos vamos a perder el baile de los macheteros?? No vamos a ir??
Gav: (turns to Carm) Pues sabe que? Si seria bueno! (turns back to Seb) Ya que Usted dice que es de esta tierra porque no se mete al baile??! Con Nosotros!!
(out in the plaza there is a crowd gathered watching a couple dance the machete dance. The song finishes. The guy who is hosting the activities comes to the center and shouts...)
Guy: Y ahora!... QUien sigue con el machetero?? (Gav steps forward with a smile) Gaviota! Usted se atreve?
Gav: (grabbing the machete, smiling) Pues a ver si me acuerdo! (Gav walks over the machete to where Seb is standing with a big smile in her face... everyone is shouting GAVIOTA!! GAVIOTA!! at unison, like she is a regular in this particular festivity)
Gav: Bueno, si gano yo hay aumento de salario! Y si pierdo pues... NADA! De acuerdo?
(Seb accepts quietly, takes his sunglasses off, (he realizes this might be intentional from her to solve his problem with the huelga and somewhat smirks a smile back at her) takes machete and follows her in to center... they begin dancing... plenty of shared stares galore... during the dance he falls to the floor first, but she lets him roll away... later on when the music ends, he has her submitted on floor, he is leaning over her with machete near her forehead... they stay there staring deeply for a moment... After a moment, Gav stands up with his help... and she begins to walk away toward her mother...)
S: Gaviota!! (catches up to her, grabs her by arm and turns her around) Espera!! Yo quiero hablar contigo!!
G: Y... ya que importa si ya gano??
S: No importa eso!!! Yo quiero hablar contigo!! Vamos a algun sitio y hablamos a solas!!
G: Si, es que su esposa no esta??
S: Ella esta en Bogota! Gaviota, por favor! Vamos a algun sitio...
Carm: Gaviota, porque no le oye?? A Ustedes le han pasado muchas cosas malas por no haber hablado!!
S: Vamos!...
G: Bueno... (to Carm) La camioneta de la Asociacion viene ahora... y le dice que me espere!
Carm: Bueno,pero se tranquiliza porque asi no llegara a ningun Pereira!
Seb: No se preocupe, Señora! Yo se la traigo en algun momento. Vamos aqui!... (leading her to the cafe table where they had sat down long ago...)
Ramon: (stays behind with Carmenza) Noo! Perdimos una apuesta y ahora no hay aumento! Ve??
