Barbarita Ruiz was raised by Caridad Ruiz (her tia Cachita) ... she believes her mother died when she was a baby... she works at this boutique...Susy is her cousin and Caridad's daughter... the novela starts when she is taking this gown to the Tompson residence... Ricarda confronts and accuses Barbarita of trying to seduce her son Valentino, that she is only interested in the money and position...
Barbarita is telling her that is not true that she loves Valentino with all her heart... she runs out of the house crying... from the upstairs window Antonio Adolfo is watching her and is impressed by her beauty... Valentino decided to marry Barbarita and Ricarda is furious... she pretends to get sick but Valentino just ignores her... At la empresa the manager discovers a huge fraud... he knows Valentino is taking a large sum of money and he is going to tell Ricarda... when he gets to the mansion Valentino is on his way to marry Barbarita... Ricarda is trying to stop him...
Valentino and Barbarita get married and they leave for a honeymoon... he is very drunk and insists on her driving... he is kissing her and sudendly she sees someone on the road... trying to avoid the man, she loses control and crashes... she is thrown of the car and is lying in the middle of the road... all of the sudden there is a huge explosion and the car burst into flames...
Alejandra Montecinos and her Severo Montecinos see the crash and stop to help... they take Barbarita to the hospital and Ricarda is notified of the death of her son... she goes crazy and blames Barbarita ... claiming she was driving drunk... she tries by all means to have her arrested by can not prove any wrong doing... She swears revenge and convinces Antonio Adolfo to help her...
Later Barbarita discovers she is pregnant... she has a baby boy... Ricarda wants to take the baby away from her... Antonio Adolfo is going to get even with her... he makes her believe he is fallen in love with her and when she thinks they are going to get married... he dumps her and tells her he never loved her and she is responsible for his brother's death... Barbarita is crushed by all this... now she is going to dedicate her life to care for her child... But Antonio Adolfo has fallen in love with Barbarita for real and now wants to be with her... she doesn't trust him, of course, but when Ricarda takes the baby away from her... he steps in to help her...
Alejandra is in love with Antonio Adolfo and Ricarda wants her to marry him... they are always plotting together against Barbarita...
Valentino is running out of money and thinks is about time he went home... so Catiuska calls Ricarda and tells her he is alive but suffering from amnesia... Antonio Adolfo and Barbarita rented an apartment and are going to try to get custidy of her child now is the hands of Ricarda... He finds out that his brother is alive and Barbarita is not free to marry him... she is waiting for him at the city hall, with all her friends and family... A A friend shows up and tells her the wedding is off and that he will explain everything to her later... Once again she is hurt and confused... She finds out that Valentino is alive and Ricarda forces her to move in with him or she will tell the police about the person that died in the car fire...
